The ‘why’ behind Rooted Remedies

Starting an herbal business in a city that is saturated with herbalists and herbal products can make it a bit of a challenge to stick out.

For years, I was focusing on how I would manage to do that - what was the niche that would help me stand out. This presented a major block on finding a path that not only felt resonant, but that I would follow through with.

One day, while voicing my frustration to a friend about this, she asked about my ‘why’. No matter what it is I’m doing and what path I choose to take, why should people choose my work and buy my products? Why am I doing what I’m doing?

•Here is my why•

I believe that reconnecting with nature is reconnecting with our innate wisdom and intelligence. As we mend our relationship with the environment, there’s no denying that we are intrinsically interconnected and directly affect each other.

The products I formulate are intentionally created to help you reconnect with your body and the wildness within; empower you in taking responsibility for your wellness and vitality; deepen your relationship with your innate wisdom.

One of my foundational values is nourishing community by giving back. This is embedded in every aspect of Rooted Remedies. From the way I harvest wild plants in the forest {being careful to check that I’m not a major disturbance or burden on the ecosystem. Always asking permission from the land stewards and the plants themselves {No means no harvesting}. After receiving a blessing, taking only what I need. Giving an offering of gratitude. Whenever possible, replanting to encourage more growth and support the plant’s population.} To the finished product of formulating herbs in a holistic way, as well as offering seasonally supportive wellness boxes and in-depth 1:1 work.

The herbs I am not able to harvest myself, I source from local farms who share similar values.

All other ingredients {alcohol, glycerin, oils, and honeys} are as local as possible, and always organic.

I use containers that can be reused in order to cut down on the amount of waste I produce and offer into the world. The labels I use are biodegradable and the shipping materials are recycled or reused.

This value is also the ‘why’ behind the monthly donations. I believe that we each have a role to play in nurturing our community, as well as ourselves. A healthy community is one built on reciprocation.

Because nourishing community and giving back extends far beyond my immediate community. It also means doing my part in the climate crisis; making sure I’m not adding to the stress of endangered plant and animal species; educating those who will listen and also want to shift to a more inclusive lifestyle.

So, why choose Rooted Remedies in a sea of other amazing herbal self-care products?... That is entirely up to you. Whatever you’re reasoning, thank you. 🙏🏼
