Grief Resides in the Lungs

~Lungs & Grief~

Did you know that grief and sadness directly effect the lungs and respiratory system? The lungs are responsible for bringing in the new and releasing the old, the constant cycle of life.

Grief and sadness are two of the emotions that come up when we’re in the part of the cycle of letting go. That could mean letting go a loved one who has passed away, a relationship, behavioral patterns, perspectives, or a way of life.

Right now, most of us, if not all of us, are experiencing some sort of grief. The world is going through a major shift and is being forced to let go of a certain way of living in order to survive. We are having to let go of the ways in which we connect with each other, work, and go about our daily lives.

Just as, after releasing the waste product of a breath (that would otherwise become toxic if not released), the lungs have space to bring in a new breath, ensuring our organ systems continue to function.

It also happens to be that the COVID-19 virus is affecting peoples’ lungs, compromising them even further.

Whatever is coming up for you during this time, personally and collectively, please remember to be gentle with yourself and allow space for your grief/sadness. Allow yourself to feel into these emotions so that they may move through you, making space for something else.
