About the Event

Herbal Plant Immersion Series:

An In-depth Exploration of Medicinal plants

with James Keskimaki of Grounded Medicine & Ojas Naturals

6 weeks

Sundays - March 10-April 14th

5:15-7:15pm @ Rooted Remedies Apothecary

In this one of a kind herbal plant immersion series - inspired by my time working with traditional plants in the Amazon, along with many years of Herbalism, Ayurveda, and Plant Spirit Medicine - the focus will be on deepening our connection to the plants, exploring and creating our own personal relationships.

In this series, we will focus on some of my favorite plant allies, working with 6 different medicinal plants over a 6 week period, connecting with a different plant each week. The format for the information I will be sharing with you comes from classic sources ranging from Traditional uses, Western herbalism, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese medicine, Mythology, Plant Identification, Wildcrafting/Foraging (ethics and sustainability), and Medicine-making tips.

In the first class we will set our intentions, discuss what the program will touch on and explore, learn about different ways of medicine making, then finish with a plant meditation. At the beginning of all the other classes that follow, we will start with a sharing circle, then discuss the more formal information on the plant featured that week, and finish with a plant meditation introducing the next plant.

During our time together, I encourage you all to experiment with different ways of connecting with these plants. Throughout each week try to make your own medicines, drink tea, create an altar, get crafty, meditate with them every day, and find the way that best resonates with you. The thing I love most about doing this in a group setting is that we all have our individual experiences and through those, we all learn so much about the plants and ourselves, and by sharing with each other we all get different perspectives enriching our learning process.

Class participation includes:

  • Herbal extracts and digital Materia Medica/ Monograph “Uses, Identification, Harvesting, Medicine making, etc” for all the plants we will work with

Cost: $250-400 Sliding scale/ We want to make this accessible to everyone but need to cover the costs to provide this class

Bio:

James began his formal herbal studies in 1999 at the California School of Herbal Studies under the tutelage of the renowned herbalist James Greene. After many years of traveling extensively around the country, James returned to his studies at the California Ayurvedic School in Nevada City.

Shortly after, he founded Ojas Naturals by focusing on creating products that combine the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda with Western herbalism. James finds inspiration both at home and abroad, and has taken backpacking trips all over the world while practicing leave-no-trace ethics and cultivating a deep reverence for the land.

In 2016 James was inspired to learn more about the subtle energies of the plants. While living in Portland he came across herbalist/ceremonialist Scott Kloos. Which led to him studying with Scott through his Reciprocal Illumination program. This program focused on holding space for community healing through Plant spirit medicine and nature connection.

He continually renews his dedication to plant spirit medicine and is working closely with the Secoya, a small indigenous group in the northwestern region of the Ecuadorian Amazon.

When not traveling, James lives in Oregon. Drawn to the area by the abundance of fresh food, potent medicine, and wild people; James can often be found walking in the old-growth forests and alpine areas of the Cascades respectfully wildcrafting plants and mushrooms, playing in his garden or checking out the local music scene.
